Props to ‘Book Shelf Porn’ for providing this picture…I recommend their blog immensely!
Life is too short to read boring books.
Books have a variety of purposes; they challenge thousands of minds, create countless new worlds, and serve as a catharsis to children and adults alike. Literature has been used to comfort the sick, accompany the lonely, and heal the heartbroken since the beginning of time, and it continues to provide endless thoughtfulness to this day. There are nearly 130 million titles circulating around the world at this exact moment, each with a mission to reveal a story, broadcast an idea, or encourage social movement. With so many concepts, adventures, and scandals traveling the globe, we as readers have a responsibility not to waste our lives reading pretentious books that were never meant for us from the start.
I believe that reading a new novel is like tasting a different type of food; while there is much to be gained by trying a new dish, it is absolutely silly to eat three plate-fulls of something you hate simply because you took a bite. There is no reason to go on the fruitless endeavor of finishing a book to its last page for the sake of finishing what you started. Americans only live an average of 75-80 years, however there are thousands of books waiting to be read before we hit our death beds. Why drown our lives away reading sleep-inducing literature when there are so many enthralling books just waiting for us on coffee tables and book shelves?
